Présentation

Cette journée d'études portera sur la Chambre des Lords britannique et ses évolutions sociales et politiques depuis la dernière Réforme de 1999. Elle interrogera également le rôle de cette chambre controversée dans l'équilibre des pouvoirs au sein du système institutionnel britannique. Les confrontations récentes entre le Parlement et le Premier Ministre Johnson ont plus que jamais rappelé les enjeux politiques et démocratiques de cette structure bicamérale particulière.

Elle sera l'occasion d'entendre un spécialiste de la question pour la présentation plénière : Dr Chris Ballinger, Academic Dean et Research Fellow à Exeter College, Oxford. Il est l'auteur de The House of Lords 1911–2011 : A Century of Non-Reform, publié en 2014.
