The Floods

by Roderick Coover, Adam Vidiksis and Nick Montfort

(22 minutes)

The Floods is filmed on waterways and shores at predicted flood-levels. The code-driven visual experience submerges viewers into a kaleidoscope of climate futures, blending creative nonfiction, computational writing and sound. The images follow Roderick Coover's journeys on shorelines around the world. His images depict underlying structures of the Anthropocene. The music and sound design by Adam Vidiksis accentuate the collision of natural and industrial rhythms. A generative text mixing observations and scientific data confronts the challenge of putting words to crises. Algorithms drive an ever-changing experience of sound, image and text – like the tides, no two versions are the same.
