Legalism: Justice and Community
OxfordFriday 7th and Saturday 8th December 2012Seminar Room E, Manor Road Building
Organised by Dr. Fernanda Pirie and Dr. Judith Scheele

PrésentationWriters on jurisprudence, from Cicero to Dworkin, have equated law and justice. Most law, either explicitly (through the claims of the legislator) or implicitly (through the content and form of laws), claims to promote or instantiate a justifiable social and moral order. Law stands apart from society; behind it lies a vision of the world as it ought to be, of what society should be. In this workshop we explore the nature of that vision and the notion of community (if any) it evokes.
